'05 and '06 were extra special seasons for the Mt Tom Ski Team.
Now in our 3rd Season we're even fielding a second team to race in the
CISC's Mt Southington conference. Why Mt Tom? Jim Cline came
up with the idea for the team name over a few wines with me in late October
'04. We all had a connection as local skiers with Mt Tom. Cline was in the
Ski School, Ed Radding used to blow off his college classes and go schuss
the slopes of Mt Tom instead, I started skiing at Mt Tom in 1973 after my family moved
to this area. In 1981 I started my ski career by becoming a Mt Tom liftie and then
quickly joining the Ski School. I was later joined at the Ski School by my Father
"Franz" and my brother Thomas. By 1982 I was working in the then
famous Mt Tom Ski Shop. Mike
"Bullet" Belanger who raced on the Mt Tom Ski Team in his youth
thought it was a neutral name that had great karma. Foreigners, Douglas and Val Cowieson chose
this area to live in because it was close to both skiing (Mt Tom) and the
airport. Both of their children raced for Mt Tom. Many of us enjoyed racing in the
Corporate League at Mt Tom. And the reasons go on...
I sure miss Mt Tom and when it snows you can be sure I pay the old slopes a
visit..
